The massive reef running parallel to the Mozambique beach at Xai-Xai provides natural protection against the strong waves at high tide and forms several small pools at low tide, when the locals gather shellfish. Bilene lies on the fine white sand shores of a 27 km long lagoon, The sea can be reached by crossing the lagoon by boat. Other popular beaches are Zongoene, at the mouth of the Limpopo River, Chidenguele and Chizavane.
Chidenguele village is located on the EN1 north of Xai-Xai, a sandy road leads from the town to Chidenguele beach, approximately 5km from the main road. This road takes you to the edge of Lake Nhambavale which is a freshwater lake over 20km long and ideal for water sports. Accommodation is available both by the lakeside and on the ocean side although a 4×4 vehicle is recommended to for most lodges in the area.
Its azure waters make it a little piece of paradise and are also the perfect playground for well-renowned Mozambique Scuba Diving.
